APBA-UIM World Championship

DOHA and More

Our Seattle Drag and Ski Sprint Club members did very well at the world championship in Doha Qatar this past weekend.

Our Club members took first and third at the prestigious event,

Young Mike Kelly won the event with some skill, some luck, and some hard driving. Dave Villwock had it going his way in the event till the re-run o f the final and his motor let go, leaving the victory for the Kelly driven Graham Trucking which was lurking just behind him.

Dave had the Elam boat really running well but salted down the turbine in the first go around and could not get it clean enough for the restart which was rushed due to pending darkness. Kelly was all smiles at the large awards ceremony at the Sheridan Hotel in downtown Doha as he accepted the beautiful first place award.

Other members Nate Brown did well in the #17 boat till he got salted up, Nate was scored in 5th place, same problems with the Webster entry #22 with the salt and gear box issues, but Brian Perkins ran the socks off the #48 Jimmy LaBrie prepped hull of the Go Fast Albert Lee Appliance team only to suffer engine problems and not make the final.

With Villwock falling back in the final, that left the Oh Boy O'Berto boat driven by Steve David, to take the Hi Point Championship for both the boat and the driver award. Two flips marred the event but no one was hurt and the race was very well received by the large local crowd, and the attending Qatar royalty in the impressive Sheiks tent.

All I can say is Wow!!!

Pirates Rule.
